Clearinghouse Rejection [CE]: Claims with Medicare as Secondary Payer Require a Valid MSP Type Code

Clearinghouse Rejection [CE]: Claims with Medicare as Secondary Payer Require a Valid MSP Type Code

Reason for Rejection

This Rejection means the Claim was treated as Medicare Secondary but is missing a valid MSP Type or has the wrong Claim Filing Indicator (CFI).

Solution

  1. Review the Patient's Insurance Card or Eligibility result to determine whether the secondary plan is Traditional Medicare or Medicare Advantage.
  2. Update the CFI on the Insurance in the Insurance Library.
  • Traditional Medicare: Set the CFI to MB.
  • Medicare Advantage: Set the CFI to CI or 16.
  1. Update the MSP Type (if Medicare is secondary) on the Patient's Insurance Policy.
  2. Resubmit the Claim.
