Medicare Secondary Payer Reason (MSP)

Medicare Secondary Payer Reason (MSP)

Notes
In order for the MSP code to be sent on a Secondary Medicare Claim, the Medicare Insurance CFI must be set to MB.

If Medicare is secondary, this is a mandatory field.
  1. If using Eligibility, the MSP will auto-populate.
    1. Otherwise, choose the Medicare Secondary Payer Reason (MSP) from the dropdown.
    2. Add this to the Medicare Policy that is secondary.
    3. Leave blank if Medicare is not secondary.

From the Add/Modify Policy screen, use the Medicare Secondary Reason dropdown list to indicate the reason Medicare is secondary.

If Medicare Eligibility is checked, the MSP field will auto populate, and the reason also can be found on the Eligibility report.
