Laboratory Billing

The POS designation identifies the location where the laboratory specimen was collected. For Example: If the specimen is obtained in an Independent laboratory, the POS should be 81.

  • In the Service Facility Library, add or change the POS 81.
  • Add the Lab's CLIA number to the Service Facility.

  • The CLIA number will pull from the Service Facility Library when the Facility with POS 81 is used on the Encounter.
  • Displays in Loop 2300 on the ANSI Electronic Claim.
  • Example: REF*X4*12D4567890*
  • If the CLIA number is necessary in Box 23 of the HCFA (paper claim), add  the CLIA to the Submit Claim Rules on the CPT® code in the Procedure Codes Library.

  • If the CLIA number is necessary in Box 32B of the HCFA (paper claim), ask Support or your Implementation Manager to add the CLIA Cross Code to your System.
  • Purchased Services: If the Lab CPT was performed at one facility but sent to another facility to actually perform the analysis of the lab work, you need to mark the CPT code as Outside Lab. Example: If the POS of the Facility is different from the Location of the Lab where the CPT was performed.
  • In the Procedure Code Library, choose the CPT.
  • In the Procedure Info panel, select Outside Lab which opens additional fields:
  • Laboratory: Select the Lab using the Lookup icon.
  • Purchased Service Cost: Enter the cost.
