BI: Glossary of Terms
- Analysis: Authors build Dashboards in an Analysis.
- Author Account: Authors can build Dashboards, modify the Author-built Dashboards, and add/modify Sheets.
- Dashboard: Dashboards contain Sheets and Visuals that all users can interact with.
- System Delivered Dashboards are given to users through a Shared Folder.
- Author-Built Dashboards are built by an Author in an Analysis.
- Controls: Used to set parameters for the data on a Dashboard.
- Data Point: A single piece of data that exists in a dataset.
- Dataset: A collection of data.
- Drill Down: Narrow the view of the data by date or Grouping.
- Drill Up: Expand the view of the data by date or Grouping.
- Metric Type: A selection on some Visuals that determines the reported data.
- Reader Account: Readers can interact with Dashboards and add/modify Sheets. This is the standard permission level for users.
- Sheet: A layer of Visuals that appears on a Dashboard.
- Example: If the BI Tool is the web browser, a Sheet is a web page.
- Both Account Types can add/modify Sheets.
- Snapshot: A screen capture of a Sheet on a Dashboard that can be sent as an automated email, or viewed on the Dashboard.
- In the Business Intelligence Tool, this section is stored under Scheduling.
- Visual: A chart or graph that exists on a Dashboard or Analysis to report data.
